Beautiful Solving Problems with Your Pond

Solving Problems With Your Pond

Aquatic plants are less likely to be attacked by pests and diseases than those growing outside the pond. This is very fortunate because chemical sprays should never be used in the pond, the effect on fish and insects that we want in the pond can be disastrous. The basic control technique is to remove the affected leaf or the whole plant, depending on the danger posed by the pest or disease. This should be done promptly before the problem gets out of hand. For some pests the leaves can be sprayed with a forceful jet of water to wash away the insects into the pond and into the mouths of grateful fish. Another technique used is to put a piece of sacking over the foliage so that it is weighed down until the insects have drowned.

There is one common complaint whch does not involve neither the pest nor disease - it is purely cultural and is the failure of Water Lilies to flower properly. There are a number of causes of poor or absent flowers. The plant may not have reached flowering size or it may have been planted incorrectly. With a mature plant it may be at the wrong depth or it may have been moved to deeper water too early. Shade can be a problem and so can water currents or the droplets from a fountain. If the plant has bloomed well in previous years then it may need feeding (use special fertilizer pellets or sachets pushed into the soil inside the planting basket), or it may just require dividing and repotting.

Here are a few of the most common pests that you will find in your pond. Some of them require you to take action and some don't. Before I get on to them though, I would just like to mention the frog. I am including the frog for interest rather than as a warning, as it is unlikely that this amphibian will ever cause any harm in your pond. But remember that during the breeding season a male frog will cling very tightly to anything that moves, and very occasionally a fish can get damaged or even killed by having its head tightly clasped by the legs of a well meaning but over-amorous frog.

Anchor Worm.

This skin parasite is one of the causes of obvious distress with the fish swimming rapidly around in circles. When the scales are examined a raised bump can be seen - the site of the embedded barbed head of this pest. From this affected area hangs the body of the worm, Greyish-White and tubular. At the end of the worm there are usually a couple of egg sacks. Prorietary remedies are available, but the standard treatment is to touch the worm with a paint brush which has been dipped in paraffin. Pull out the parasite using tweezers and dab the wound with a fish antiseptic.

Dropsy.

This is an uncommon problem, but a very serious one. The body of the fish becomes bloated and the eyes protrude, but the most distinctive symptom is that the scales are raised to give the 'pine cone' effect associated with this disease. The experts cannot decide what causes dropsy. There may well be several forms of and it is known that one type of drosy is caused by bacteria. You will sometimes see dropsy cures listed in the catalogues and the condition sometimes corrects itself, but the best course of action is to kill the fish humanely.
I have only listed Two problems that can occur in the pond, but there are a lot more. Maybe I will write about them in my next article if I have time.

Building a fire pit in your own backyard can be a simple, fast, and fun activity for the whole family. It can be used no matter what the season, whether you're having a springtime barbecue, s'mores in the summer, or even a Halloween camp out in the fall. One that is built outdoors isn't just functional, but can be an attractive accent to your home as well, when trimmed with decorative stones or when it's built-in to your patio.

You should start the building process by choosing where you want your pit to be located. Pick a clear, empty spot that's fairly far away from flammable materials such as grass, leaves, trees, bushes, and building structures. After your hole is completed, carefully inspect it to ensure that it's evenly dug with a level surface. You can leave the hole as-is and skip this next step if you don't mind burning up the ground and dirt, but if you wish your pit to be a little more aesthetically pleasing, continue on. Next, you need to pour about three to four inches of finely ground pea gravel into your pit and smooth it out, for an even burning surface.

For added safety, line the outside of your circular pit with large rocks. If you want a more attractive look, use your imagination and build a miniature brick wall, add some decorative cement garden stones, or you may lay down a flat, decorative tile border. Just keep in mind that your border must be fireproof and non-flammable.

Your last and final step is too build a fire inside of your newly constructed fire pit, using kindling, logs, and a heat source such as matches or a lighter. Once this is done, all you need to do is sit back around your pit and enjoy the fruits of your labors!

Once your fire pit is fully constructed, you'll find yourself making excuses to throw an outdoor party. You won't need to worry any longer about your campfires spreading, or small children getting too close to your bonfire. Elegant Three Details to Contemplate when You Add a Patio Fire Pit to Your Yard

Three Details To Contemplate When You Add A Patio Fire Pit To Your Yard

Fall is literally right around the corner but just because it will be cooling off soon, it doesn't mean that you have to give up being able to hangout on your patio. Outdoor heating will create a comfortable, warm, and welcoming patio or backyard environment. Some of the most popular outdoor heating accessories today are fire pits. Fire pits are not only wonderful outdoor accessories, they also add style and design to outdoor spaces. In addition to this, they are incredibly functional, keeping you and your guests nice and toasty on cold nights.

Outdoor fireplaces are also becoming incredibly popular. They range in style from contemporary to traditional, and can be composed of many materials including brick, stone, and cement. With an outdoor fireplace you will really feel like you are in a living room setting while still getting to enjoy the fresh outdoor air and scenery. There are many types of outdoor heating. There are prefabricated heating accessories that you can buy or you can have a contractor build an outdoor heating piece for your specific space. Outdoor heating includes fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, designer fire tables, chimneys, heating lamps, and more.

Outdoor fire pits can also convert an unwelcoming patio or backyard into a warm, glowing, and inviting space. You can create your own fire pit or you can buy a stylish prefabricated model. While fire pits are incredibly popular, there are a few very basic mistakes that people make when it comes to adding one to their home. There are three basic things that you must keep in mind before you dig a trench into your yard or put a hole through your patio to add a fire pit.

Check Local Fire Codes
This is the number one thing you must do before you build or buy fire pits. It is incredibly important to check your local laws and check that it is actually legal to have an outdoor fire pit in your backyard. Communities have gotten a little more strict when it comes to open fires. If they are not totally restricted in your area, there may still be zoning laws which specify where they can be placed and how large they can be.

Consider Prevailing Wind Directions
After checking your local fire codes and verifying that you can legally have a fire pit in your yard, the next thing you must figure out is where you can place your pit so that you won't be subjected to huge amounts of smoke. Unless you want to get carbon monoxide poisoning from inhaling unusually large amounts of smoke, then this is definitely something that you should consider before hand. It is best to place fire pits where they are down wind of the prevailing winds in your area.

Think About Placement
If you do not properly consider the placement of your fire pit, you may not get as much enjoyment out of it as you could. When it comes to placing fire pits, it is best to place them in a spot where you will be able to see beyond them. This way, you can stare at the sunset, a lake in the distance, or any other natural view. Unfortunately, some people make the mistake of placing fire pits in spots where they end up with their backs to a lovely view.

Elegant Protecting Yourself While Gardening

Protecting Yourself While Gardening

For some people who do not gardening they just can not understand the joy of it all. But, there is truly something wonderful about gardening. It is just great to feel the heat of the sun on you and to feel your hands in the cool damp grass and dirt. And to see such beauty sprout up from all of your hard work is truly something to be proud of. I like to see all of my hard work start to sprout in the spring time. The spring time is what I value the most, it is before all the flowers start to bloom fully but, you can start to see things starting to form. The connection with nature that is made during the gardening experience can almost be compared with that of raising a child.

There are also some bad things that can come from gardening one of these things is different bacteria and even the income of parasites. It is unfortunate but, our favorite time of year to garden is also the period when parasites are most common. If you do not protect yourself enough than you can become a host to a parasite. So what you want to do is where protective gloves at all times. Also make sure to where shoes of some sort and not sandals. I know this one can be a little bit uncomfortable so if you want to take off your shoes while gardening I recommend putting something down over top of the dirt so you can lay on it without fear of catching a parasite. I like to use duvet covers for this because duvet covers are thick enough that you can rest easy from parasites but thin enough so you can still feel the cool ground. Also make sure to where some sort of eye protection because you do not want any dirt flying in your eyes, and if you can do this than you will able to garden in safety.

Beautiful Selecting Portable Chicken Coops

Selecting Portable Chicken Coops

When permanent chicken coop structures are not desirable, and when allowing chickens to roam freely is not an option due to your property size, portable chicken coops may be the answer. A growing number of people these days, some even in urban areas, are beginning to breed their own chicken broods in order to produce healthy eggs for their families. Coops allow such families to get into chicken breeding easily and cost-effectively.

Breeders must select whether they will build the coops themselves, or if they will purchase kits or even pre-fabricated coops. Generally speaking, portable coops should be kept extremely simple, with a minimum of amenities; this is important if they are to be easily moved. Some typical chicken coops, capable of supporting five chickens, are six feet tall by six feet long by three feet wide. These dimensions allow for a compact and easily movable structure, provided that it is constructed with lightweight materials. Having said this, it is also important to ensure that portable houses will be able to withstand inclement weather without blowing over. If a breeder wishes to keep more or larger-sized chickens, they will need to select a coop of appropriate size. Bear in mind that the larger the coop, the less portable it becomes.

Portable houses are often designed with open floors so that chickens can exercise and roam within the coop, and have access to real soil and grass. However, since prolonged exposure to chicken waste will eventually create toxic soil, such portable chicken coops are designed to be easily relocated on a regular basis around the yard, to avoid over-working the soil in one spot. If the yard is not large enough to support relocation, the breeder may opt for portable chicken coops that have a floor instead. The main structure of portable chicken coops may involve a frame made of wood, plastic, or engineered materials, with chicken wire covering the large openings. A simple, enclosed roosting area and a nesting area will also be present.

Amenities within portable chicken coops usually involve a human access door for collecting eggs and cleaning. A chicken access door for the roost area is important as well, since they must be protected against predators that can dig, or that may get through the chicken wire. A feeding and drinking apparatus is also included inside portable chicken coops, and is usually hung from the top. This is in keeping with the idea of portability; anything hung will always hang level, even if the chicken coop itself is on slightly uneven ground.

The Best Tips for Gardening

Summer is coming again! So Well! Time to sit back, relax and have a look at all those weeds in your garden! Now you will have some useful tips to have a charmingful garden all season long in this article.

Watering

With summer comes the high humidity, which causes fungus to grow. To prevent the fungus from growing, water your plants in the morning, but never at night. If you water during the morning, the heat during the day will evaporate the water and leave less moisture for the fungus. Just as important, don't water during the middle of the day. The water droplets will magnify the intensity of the sun, which will cause your beautiful plants to burn.

Pruning and Trimming

Remember to prune and trim shrubs, bushes and trees to help keep your landscaping looking tidy and neat. Unless your shrubs are a dwarf variety, they will grow very quickly and will soon take over. Pruning only needs to be done once a year, in late spring or early summer. Don't worry about making a mistake when pruning - they'll grow back.

Deadheading

Deadhead your flowers throughout the season. Deadheading is the process of removing the dried up blooms from your flowers. Not only will your flowers look better, but it will also encourage new blossoms. If dried up blooms remain, the flower will spend its energy producing seeds instead of new flowers.

Buying Plants

When choosing plants from a nursery or a garden centre, don't choose the plants that are in full bloom. Choose plants that have a lot of buds growing on them, as it is easier for these plants to withstand the shock of being transplanted. Plus, you get the pleasure of seeing them grow and bloom soon after you bring them home. Once you have finished transplanting, water, water and water some more. Newly transplanted flowers and other plants need lots of water to establish a healthy root system.

Going Away

If you are planning to go away on vacation, even for a few days, ask a neighbour to water your garden for you. If you need to, add some mulch around the base of the plants in order to retain much needed moisture. As a way of thanks, bring your neighbour back a small gift, such as a notepad or candles. Wrap it in a large ribbon with a handwritten tag that says "Thank you!" in big letters. Presentation counts!

Staking

Use wooden or decorative plastic stakes to help support plants with large, heavy flowers. With your support, the plants will grow tall and straight, which will make them look even more beautiful. Also, use trellises or another similar support system for climbing vines. As the vines grow, wind them through the trellis in order to control the direction the plant is growing in.

Encourage Wildlife

Encourage birds and other wildlife that you love to watch to come and visit you and your garden. Hang up bird feeders and bird houses in your yard. The bird feeder should be in a spot where you can easily see it, where it is easy to fill and most importantly, easy to clean up the empty bird seed shells. For other wildlife, provide them shelter, such as trees and shrubs, for protection from the elements.

Enjoy!

The most important part of a garden is enjoying it. So, sit back in a comfy chair, take a good look around and be proud of what you have accomplished.

Lovely Home Herb Garden Tips and Advice

Home Herb Garden Tips and Advice

Using Herbs from a Home Herb Garden

Once your herbs are planted, you can watch them grow and flourish. Herbs are so useful, not only for cooking, adding to oils, but also for medicinal uses. However, your home herb garden requires just a bit of work.

Herbs can become a part of your daily life. You will get so used to adding an extra special flavor that can only come from your home-grown herb garden. You most likely will be harvesting (picking) your herbs daily. Harvesting is very important. Timing is everything. If you are using the herbs for an immediate use, obviously the best time to pick them is when you need them. But, if you are planning on drying or freezing the herbs, it is extremely important to harvest them when their flavor is at their peak. It is better to pick the young leaves several times a season rather than waiting until the entire plant is mature. Pick the herb flowers either right before they are ready to bloom or when they first open their petal. It does not matter if you are using the herbs immediately, drying or freezing, the morning is the best time to harvest the herb flower or leaves. This is when the concentration of rich oils that give the herbs their aromas and flavors is strongest.

Many people that have their own home herb gardens harvest by the phases of the moon.

They say that herbs that have been harvested around a moon calendar retain more nutrients and flavor. Pick your herbs in the morning as usual, but check a moon calendar to find the best phase of the moon.

One of the big pleasures of having your own home herb garden is that you can eat your foods without having to wash it. There are no pesticides or chemical to rinse off. If you plan to store your herbs for a few days, hold off washing them. When you do wash the herbs and if there is a large quantity, you can use the sink and place 2 tablespoons of salt in the water. This will get rid of insects without damaging the plant. After removing the herb, dry them in a salad spinner. The exception is parsley. This is one herb that stays longer and fresher if you seep it in cool water as soon as you pick it. This herb will not wilt by following this procedure.

Although different types of herbs have their own list of instructions, typically there are three ways that people preserve their herbs for later use: drying, freezing or preserving.

Drying is one of the simplest and most convenient ways to preserve your herbs' leaves and flowers. Hang drying is an especially great way to preserve large quantities of herbs. You will need a well ventilated, dark, dry location. Your attic or a small dark room would be ideal. Don't bother to wash them. Tie small bunches of herbs with twist ties, rubber bands or elastic threads and hang them so that air can circulate freely. Hang them one foot from the wall and leave at least 6 inches between bunches. Most herbs dry within two weeks. They will feel crackly to touch. These herbs are much more concentrated than fresh herbs. Store in tightly closed jars/bottles and store in dark part of your kitchen cabinet.

Freezing captures the full flavor of herb leaves. Cut the herbs into ¼ inch pieces and place on a baking sheet lined with wax paper. Once frozen, place in a bag for more efficient storage. A neat trick for using your herbs in soups/stews is to place your chopped up herbs in an ice tray and cover with water and freeze. These cubes are handy to add to a simmering pot of soup or sauce.

The third way is using a medium. You can use either vinegar or salt. One great example is to use chopped mint, basil or tarragon with vinegar. It will stay preserved for months. If you'd like to make flavored salt, just alternate layers of fresh herbs between salt. When completely dry, separate the brown herb from the flavored salt and store in an airtight container.

Herbs transform ordinary meals into magical delights. Even if you already cook with herbs, having your own herb garden will inspire you to experiment and discover new ways of making an old recipe new.

New Supervisors and the Pits - Proper Interviewing Techniques and Strategies

Supervisors and the PITS - Proper Interviewing Techniques and Strategies

In this supervisors' core training white paper, we deal with a red hot issue often over looked by Human Resources (HR) professionals; the subject of proper interviewing techniques. Given the level of sophistication of today's workers, companies can ill afford not to cover this subject in great detail with those who conduct interviews for them.

Supervisors' Will be Held Liable

Supervisors must attend core training sessions where they learn the questions they can and cannot ask during an interview. And since they are representatives of the company, everything they say can, and probably will be used against them in a court of law. One of the great dangers is- supervisors making promises to prospective employees, out of earshot of the HR department, which the company did not authorize, and therefore cannot keep. For example, the supervisor says "you've already got the job-just go to HR and get a start date."

The Hidden Danger

One of the hidden dangers here is the HR department has not been able to complete a due diligence background check with includes, but is not limited to, a check and verification of Social Security Numbers, a drivers license check, credit check, and criminal history background check- to name a few. There are grave consequences if a company fails to conduct a background check and a criminal act is committed on their premises. Supervisors must be taught to respect the hiring process and not get ahead of HR by making promises the company simply cannot keep.

Train on Techniques

Supervisors can and must be taught how to properly conduct interviews of perspective employees. Today's workers are coming to the interview knowing the questions the supervisor can and cannot ask. For example you cannot ask an interviewee if they are married. This is an illegal question, prohibited by law, which could get your company sued. Another line of questioning prohibited by law is asking an interviewee about a disability. These are but two of a long list of questions you must use caution, and be keenly aware of, when conducting interviews.

Therefore, your supervisors must be trained on how to initiate, conduct, and properly end the interview.

Remain On Point Throughout

Where many supervisors (who are company representatives) drop the ball is when, for example, the interviewee asks to use the restroom facilities and, while walking the person back, the supervisor starts to ask a line of personal questions. Always remember unless and until the person is hired, they are still in the interviewing process. This means never ask questions you cannot ask. The bottom line rule of thumb is; if it is not job related; don't ask the question- period.

Summary

Given the level of sophistication of today's workers, companies can ill afford not to cover the subject of proper interviewing techniques and strategies (in great detail) with supervisors conducting interviews for the company. Your supervisor core training must include the questions supervisors are prohibited from asking. The Human resources department must make this core training a top priority.

Best of Designing Backyard Chicken Coops

Designing Backyard Chicken Coops

When designing backyard chicken coops, there are several considerations. Are you intending to breed chickens for your own use only? Are you intending to sell chickens and eggs to others? How much space do you have to work with? How much can you spend? Your answers will determine the required sizes of any backyard coops. Coops will suit small breeders who intend to raise only a few chickens and have limited space, whereas medium coops can be used to conduct business with more chickens. Backyard chicken coops may or may not be appropriate for larger serious businesses; you will need to determine this yourself.

When breeders have decided on the size of their backyard housing, they must also determine whether or not the coops must be permanent or portable. Permanent backyard coops can be built more sturdily and with a greater number of amenities. Portable backyard fowl coops can be built so that they can be easily moved around the property, reducing the amount of toxic soil created over time.

Backyard chicken houses will contain as many amenities as is possible given space, size, and cost restraints. Nesting boxes are required to allow an area where the chickens can lay eggs. Roosts are required in order to provide a safe sleeping area overnight, secure from predators. Access for the breeder is needed; a human-sized entry door is standard on many backyard chicken coops, and hinged access doors to the nesting boxes and roost are a good idea for cleaning and egg retrieval. Backyard chicken coops may also include a small exercise area, either within the coop itself or just outside. Breeders may fence off a small area on one side of the building where the chickens can roam freely during the day.

Entry to the exercise area can be from the main access door, or from a small chicken-sized door that can be opened and closed as needed. Feeding areas in backyard chicken coops may be either permanent parts of the coop itself, or can be units that are hung within the coop. Hung units can be removed as needed.

Chickens make an enticing meal for many predators, and a potential chicken breeder quickly learns about all the possible animals from which they need to provide protection. Rodents are notorious at chewing through wood and wire, and can enter through the smallest openings. Once inside backyard chicken coops, they can wreak havoc with any eggs inside, as well as injuring the chickens themselves. Foxes are extremely agile and intelligent creatures that can easily figure out simple latches and exploit weaknesses in wire mesh.

Foxes will kill and eat any chickens they find, so backyard chicken coops must be built to protect against them. Even dogs cannot resist the lure of an easy meal, and many dogs are capable diggers, getting underneath a mesh fence and exploiting any backyard chicken coops that have been built without floors.

Elegant House Extension Ideas and Designs

House Extension Ideas and Designs
Making a house extension for your home is a great alternative than moving out and finding bigger spaces to live in. You add extra rooms and more living space, even install some new decorations and other equipment. And there are so many ways you could go about to redesign and renovate your home.

Before you start working on the house extension designs, you need to take into account a lot of important factors while planning for the project. With so many possibilities in how to redecorate and redesign your home, there are so many things that could happen and even go wrong. You might even need professional help with this one, so it is best that you consult an architect or engineer to find out what kind of addition would best suit your home.

Some of the factors that could affect our decision in your house extension idea include lighting, as to how much you want the extension to have natural or artificial lighting at different parts of the day. The number of windows in your house is also important, as they are responsible for natural lighting and circulation of air inside the structure. And you might need to decide whether you need more of that or less of it. You also need to take into account how this house extension would affect your neighbours, as well as how accessible the house would be afterward.

Here are some helpful tips and guides you would like to need for your house extension plans:

* Ground Floor House Extensions

Depending on how much available space you have for your ground level, you would either have an easy way or to make compromises to add your house extensions. If you have a typical suburban home, then your extensions would expand to the backyard. You could add an additional veranda, a sunroom, or extend your living room. But if you have lesser space tat would cause trouble with the extension, then you need to determine your home’s property lines.

* Second Floor House Extensions

Making a house extension on the second floor of your home is trickier and requires some favourable weather for building. Note that your roof would be open to the elements during the renovation, so you need to pick a time when you know the weather would not get in the way of building and would not ruin the inside of your house. But one of the good points of building a second floor extension is that it would sometimes be less expensive, because there would be no need for building a foundation for it.

When your House Extension Ideas are ready to be worked on, make sure that you complete all the necessary building permits you need for the construction. You may even need to inform our neighbours about the house extension, because the renovation and construction would most likely affect their lives as much as yours. And make sure that how much you are going to spend for extending you project would be within your budget, and that would still have plenty of budget left to add some decorations and furniture in the new extensions.

New Camp at Home with Your Own Indoor Fire Pit or Fireplace

Camp at Home With Your Own Indoor Fire Pit Or Fireplace

The best part of summer is camping--escaping out into the great outdoors as temperatures soar, and cooking your dinner on an outdoor fireplace. The worst part of summer camping is, of course, the crowds! With your own outdoor fire pit, however, you can have the best of both worlds and camp out in your own back yard.

There are outdoor fireplaces to suit every price range and style. When deciding which outdoor fire pit to buy, ask yourself a few questions. What is your budget? Who will be using it? How much space do you have? Once you know the answer to these questions, you can start looking around at the different options for your outdoor fireplace, because the last and most important question to answer is, "What style do I like?"

Outdoor Fire Pits and Fire Rings

Fortunately, you have choices. The simplest fire rings start at under a hundred dollars; this style is made from fire-safe materials and usually comes with a simple grill. Some are collapsible for easy transportation. The more decorative the outdoor fire pit, the more it will cost, but your choice really depends on what will fit in your yard, space-wise and style-wise. These smaller outdoor fireplaces are great if you don't have much room or have a small budget.

Outdoor fire pits are larger structures on legs which protect the surface they stand on. Such fire pits act as a focal point and place around which to gather, and while they are a little more expensive than fire rings they do have the advantage of looking more attractive.

When it comes to features, some outdoor fire pits have wheels for easy relocation. Screens are a popular addition; they help prevent accidents and make your outdoor fireplace a great place to enjoy a balmy summer night (or even a mild winter evening). The screens and higher-up flames make such fire pits a little safer, too.

Outdoor Fireplaces are Elegant and Welcoming

The most expensive, but also the most beautiful, outdoor fireplaces can cost thousands of dollars, but they provide a wonderful focal point to an elegant garden. Some outdoor fireplaces even sit at the center of granite tables, making them a welcoming option on colder evenings. They act as showpieces, the heart of a large backyard gather.

If you don't need to cook, an outdoor fireplace is a great addition to your yard. These free-standing structures enclose a warming fire and can be used to provide light, heat and atmosphere year-round. The forms of such outdoor fireplaces range from a pretty pagoda-style to simple cylinders and cubes.

Set up an outdoor fireplace, and you'll have a pleasant, cozy place to welcome your guests for many years to come.

Lovely the Advantage of Pond Dechlorinator

The Advantage of Pond Dechlorinator

Now you have filled the pond with new water, you are excited to see clearer view of the pond's bottom and how the fish will love their new environment. As too much excitement, you notice that the fish are gasping slowly at the surface, wondering what could have triggered the fish with such behaviour. After few minutes the fish look as if they are going to die.

If that's the case, then you must have forgotten to add pond dechlorinator in the water. Don't feel bad, you are not alone.

Chlorine is not good for fish. Fish quickly absorb chlorine that can burn their gills and kill them quickly. Fortunately, there is pond dechlorinator that do the work for us.

What is a dechlorinator?

Dechlorinator is also called as chlorine neutralizer or dechlorinator. It removes chlorine and chloramines from tap water or source water that may affect fish and other marine animals.

Why Is Dechlorinator Important?

Most water source contains elements that are unnecessary to fish. Water coming from household and those from farm and ranches should be treated before it gets contact with fish. Although the chemicals present from the water supply is not very harmful to land animals, they can affect fish and damage the biological filters. If too much chlorine contaminates the water, this can trigger the buildup of ammonia, which is more toxic than chlorine. You must use the dechlorinator properly to remove chlorine and save your fish from sudden death.

Usage

Dechlorinators have different dosage recommendations. You must read the instructions carefully to know the required dosage for your dechlorinator. Most of good dechlorinators use one drop for each two gallons of water and two drops for each gallon of water.

Keep in mind that you will dechlorinate the new water not the entire water that has been there already, unless you have removed all the water from the pond for some reason. Dechlorinators show results in as fast as two to five minutes. Always check and follow the instructions to make sure the effectiveness of the product.

Are there any negative effects of dechlorinator?

Dechlorinators are formulated to treat chlorine/chloramine, and they cannot remove other chemicals or additives from the water. Therefore, don't expect your dechlorinator to clear algae or remove ammonia.

All dechlorinators remove chlorine, but only few neutralize chloramine. If your source water contains more chloramine, use a dechlorinator that eliminates not just chlorine but chloramine as well. You can buy both at the local pet shop or garden centre.

Chlorine is quicker to treat than chloramine. You can just let chlorine stand overnight and allow it to evaporate and then it will be safe to use on the next day. You can also bubble the air out through air stone to hasten the removal of chlorine. However, chloramine is much harder to remove. You must buy dechlorinator that neutralized chloramine.

Beautiful Shade Flowers for Your Garden

There is nothing to make one appreciate a shade garden more than the blazing heat of a summer's day. Shade gardens provide a cool and soothing place to relax, and can be the ideal place to entertain friends and family outdoors during the hot days of summer. They can be an especially enjoyable space if they are full of beautiful and fragrant blooming flowers.

Finding the appropriate shade flowers for your garden can be a challenge, however. Not all flowers will bloom in shady conditions, and those that do may still need a certain amount of exposure to light during the day. Many shade loving flowers are native to forest locations, and will do well in medium to full shade conditions, while others will only bloom in light shade conditions. One of the keys to selecting appropriate flowers for your shade garden will be determining just how much shade and sunlight your garden receives during the day. Once you have determined whether you have light, medium or full shade conditions, you can start to select shade flowers for your garden.

Shade flowers tend to come in a more limited color palette than their fun sun counterparts: pink, blue, and white are the most common shade flower colors, and you should try to design your shade flower garden with these colors in mind. Some popular shade flowers include Columbines, Wood Anemones, Showy Sedums and Bleeding Hearts. You should select both early and late blooming flower varieties to ensure color all season long.

If you are looking for a low maintenance garden, a shade garden will be an excellent choice as flower and plants tend to grow much slower in the shade, giving you more time and flexibility when it comes to caring for them. You should also consider planting perennials instead of annuals in your shade garden, since perennials will last for years with only minimal maintenance (watering, periodic fertilizing and dividing every few years).

Since many shade gardens are under large trees, you will need to ensure that your flowers receive adequate nutrients and water since they will be competing with tree roots for these resources. With the proper care and attention, however, you should be able to create a beautiful garden retreat full of shade flowers to enjoy for years to come.

Lovely Pool Care Instructions

Pool Care Instructions

If you've got problems with your swimming pool, the first instruction is not to panic. Whether your pool has gone green, your grouting has gone black, or your inlet jets are gurgling, there's nearly always a simple reason, and a equally simple solution. Your first reaction after 'Help! What do I do?' will be to phone the pool service company. Do you really want to pay their hefty call-out fee for something you could fix yourself? Or you could search through that really heavy pool maintenance guide you once bought - isn't it in the spare room somewhere? No what you need is some straightforward, crystal clear advice. Such as this:

What can you do about cloudy water?

This is a very common problem. Here's how to keep it clear and sparkling. You need just enough sanitiser(chlorine or salt), enough water movement, the right pH balance, plus regular brushing and vacuuming. Is that all? First of all, if your level of chlorine or salt falls below the recommended levels for a few days, the water will go cloudy. Routine shock chlorination shoul get rid of any residual algae or bacteria. Then make sure your pump is running long enough on the timer - it should be three or four hours a day, increasing to six to eight hours in the hottest weather. Sometimes, even with all this correct, the water will be cloudy. Make sure your filter isn't clogged or dirty. If it is, backwash it. And rinse after the backwash or dirty water will return to the pool. If the water is still cloudy, maybe you need to add a flocculant sachet to your skimmer. This will clump the tiny particles together, and ensure they are trapped by the filter. This should clear your water if you filter overnight

What is algae?

Algae are the black or green or yellow spots found on the sides of pools or floating in the water. They are tiny plants brought into the pool by spores in the wind and are not normally a problem if you've enough chlorine in the water. If the chlorine is low, sprinkle chlorine granules round the edge of the pool. As they dissolve, they will rise up the pool and clear the algae. Do this at the end of the day with the pump off and no one in the pool. Or you can buy special algaecide to match your type of algae. Just use a small amount(a tablespoon for an 8 x 4 pool), and shock chlorinate at the same time.

Who can you rely on?

The pool man? The 'expert' neighbour? The pool constructor's handbook that's in a language you don't understand? I have done considerable research, and talked to many experts, about common pool problems. My biggest wish is to make this seemingly complicated subject straightforward and clear to every pool owner who feels out of his or her depth.

Awesome Patio Flooring Choices

Patio Flooring Choices

There are many things to consider when it comes to making your patio a really nice place to spend time, and one of the most important things that you need to decide is what kind of patio flooring you will install, as this will have a major effect on the way your patio looks overall. This article will take a look at some of the different types of patio flooring and some considerations that need to be borne in mind before making a purchase decision.

For many people a wood floor is the only thing that really will do the business, and although it used to be a case of this being a very expensive option it is now much cheaper if you choose a laminate floor instead of something made from natural wood. There are now many different types of laminate floor available, and you can choose from anything from a light pine color to a very dark oak or walnut.

Another material that can be great for patio floors is vinyl, because by choosing a very high quality vinyl floor you will find that it can be weatherproof and it can also give you some great design styles. One of the best things you can do is choose vinyl flooring tiles, since these can usually be installed without the help of a professional contractor and can therefore save you quite a lot of money.

But one of the best choices you can make for a patio floor is to install a rubber floor, since not only will this be extremely safe, something that can be incredibly important if you have children using the area, but it could also be extremely waterproof and can also insulate the floor against a cold sub-floor. If you want to walk on your patio in bare feet, even in fairly cold weather, you may find rubber flooring could be one of the best choices you can make.

Take time to think about these three alternatives and then choose the one that you think will make the best answer to your patio flooring needs.

Best of Landscaping - Backyard Structures, Helpful Tips & Ideas

Landscaping - Backyard Structures, Helpful Tips & Ideas

You're in the middle of landscaping your new backyard, or maybe finally having the chance to revamp your old one. A big part of your plans is to add a backyard structure for that central and finishing piece. But how do you choose when there are so many options, styles, and colors? There are a few things you're going to have to consider.

Neighborhood: If you're in any sort of neighborhood in, there are likely HOA restrictions or rules on what you can actually put in your yard. Make sure to double check what's appropriate in structure and style before purchasing a backyard structure. Another thing to keep in mind is just what LOOKS good. Blending in with the rest of the neighborhood's overall appearance is important, but that doesn't mean you can't choose something that still captures attention.
Weather: Climate is definitely something to think about when choosing a backyard structure in. Wherever the structure is located, make sure that it will be able to stand on it's own two feet in the environment and still look beautiful. Can it stand the heat, rain, snow, or whatever may come your yard's way? I live in Utah and the weather is definitely a factor not to toss out the window. You can even use this to your advantage. That is, backyard structures do not have to be summer use only! If say you decide to have a pergola installed, this can double as a display for a Christmas nativity, or a Thanksgiving display. Keep this in mind when deciding if you want to position your structure where it can be visible from the road or whether you want it to be your own private display.
Personal Style: The signature home style in my home state is the rambler. Make sure to select a Pergola, or Arbor, or whatever structure you decide upon, that is all your own. Obviously don't forget the points above when it comes to blending with the neighborhood. However, your yard is one area that you can deviate to some degree as long as you stick with the covenants and ordinances of your area. Ask yourself, Do you like dark or light wood? Does it complement your neighborhood? Curves? Straight lines? Intricate or simple designs? Take into account the style that is already in your home. And above all, make sure whatever you choose is something that you'll love for years to come and not something that's just the current fad.

Now that you have some things to mull over in your mind, you are well on your way to choosing the perfect backyard structure for your location. The style of a backyard can tell you a lot about a person and their likes and dislikes, so making sure you choose the right central piece is vital. Lastly, when working on your backyard remember to just have fun! Your backyard is about to become exciting and beautiful!

Elegant Lose Weight with Your Home Vegetable Garden

Lose Weight With Your Home Vegetable Garden

I love the commercial where they show a heavy set man getting ready to get on the treadmill to do his daily exercise routine. He starts stretching, bending and moving as if he is getting his body ready for the rigorous and sweat filled activity that is to come form the treadmill. So he steps up on the treadmill, pushes some of the blinking red buttons, and the treadmill begins to move. Faster and faster the treadmill goes as does the man who then begins to start running due to the speed of the treadmill. After less than a minute he hits the big shiny stop button and walks over to the scale to weigh himself. When the scale shows that he didn't lose any weight, the man becomes discouraged. The moral of the story was, don't look for quick results without putting in the effort.

That theme holds true with losing weight which is why that particular company used weight loss as its lead in to prove a point. You need to put the time and effort in if you want to lose those extra pounds. However, what you may not know is that you do not need to spend countless hours in a gym to do it.

The key to losing weight is eating right, eating healthy well balanced meals through the day. Studies have shown that eating smaller meals more often keeps your metabolism rate high and that in turn burns more fat.

As an avid home vegetable gardener myself I can tell you that growing a vegetable garden at home can serve you two purposes in this area. The first being you can grow the food you need to consume that will help you lose the weight.

Each meal you consume throughout the day should have a portion of vegetables included with it. Vegetables provide your body's requirements for minerals, vitamins and nutrients. When you grow your own vegetables you are guaranteeing their quality. You know what you are using to make them grow, such as water amounts, fertilizers, composts and so on and this allows you to control the amount of harmful pesticides and chemicals.

You also save money when you grow your own vegetables. The USDA reported in a recent study that fifty dollars in vegetable seeds can produce as much as two thousand dollars worth of produce.

Beyond all that, home vegetable gardening is great physical exercise. The larger the garden, the more work it will require to make it successful. The cultivating of the soil, picking of weeds, watering, digging holes for compost are all physically demanding and work your muscles. I have a garden that is about twenty feet by fourteen feet and I can tell you that I put a lot of work into it that helps me break a nice sweat. Of course standing out in the hot and humid New Jersey weather adds to that as well.

I won't say that you can lose 100 pounds in 30 days, but you can get the extra physical activity you will need to keep your body in motion, and the best part is all of the work you put into it will yield fruits and vegetables that you can add to your daily diet and nutrition program.

Best of Planning a Garden

Planning a Garden

Gardening is an activity that is enjoyed by practically hundreds of millions of people around the world. It can be enjoyed by the very young to the very old, as it is a very gentle activity that does not require great feats of strength (or great strength of feet!). It can bring enhanced value to a home, and it can provide your dinner table with fresh fruit, vegetables, herbs, nuts, etc that you and your family can enjoy year round, with proper planning.

Garden planning starts with deciding what type of garden you want to have. If you're blessed with a very large yard, then you're not restricted to just one type, and you can follow the designs of the English country manor and have "garden rooms" in your yard - that is, different types of gardens in different areas of the yard demarcated in some fashion. However, deciding what you want to have is essential before you rush out and buy plants.

Many companies around the world offer garden design services, and there is even software that you can now purchase to help you design your own garden. If you want to do it yourself, and don't want to purchase any fancy software, then all you need is some graph paper, a nice sharp pencil and perhaps a ruler. If you have them, look in your children's pencil case for these items, or go out and buy them, they aren't expensive!

While considering what you want to have in your garden, it is worthwhile walking or driving around the neighbourhood. Look at what your neighbours are doing in their gardens. Chances are they're willing to talk to you about their trials and tribulations, and they will know what works and what they've tried that hasn't worked.

If you're new to the area, then you'll want to get familiar with the climate. Observe your yard for a few days or even weeks and see how the wind blows, where the shade is, where the sun passes overhead, and other similar things. Just don't do what the author did and observe it for half a decade. Observation is fine, but the point of gardening is to get your hands dirty.

At this point, I want to stop and consider edible gardens. With the climate growing increasingly warmer, oil reaching "Peak Oil" stages with petrol prices rising higher and higher, food is becoming more expensive to grow and a lot more expensive to buy. In as little as 10 square metres, or around 110 square feet, you can grow vegetables, fruit and herbs, and with another 10 square metres, you could also have chickens with their very own coop. If you want more information on chickens, then check out the website below.

Everyone should have at least culinary herbs in their garden, even if it's just some parsley and mint. Not only are they good to eat, but every time you brush past them, or the wind blows, you will have a delightful aroma waft through the garden. Plant your herbs somewhere convenient to the kitchen so that you're encouraged to use them.

Still prior to purchasing any plants, decide on the hard landscaping features. This includes any paths, retaining or regular walls, landscaping features (fountains, ponds, ornaments, etc) as well as things like reticulation. The time to plan these and get them in is before the plants are in, as it's much easier to fit the plants around the landscaping features than the other way around. Dig the trenches and lay the pipes for your reticulation first, and then work up from there.

Once you've drawn up your plan, and thought about your landscaping, then it's time to get your hands dirty, and start building your garden. The only limit is your imagination and your budget. Enjoy!

Unique Know More About the Right Koi Pond Supplies for Your Fish Pond

Know More About the Right Koi Pond Supplies For Your Fish Pond

You probably chose to take care of the Koi species in your very own pond. This may be a challenging task for a beginner but can be very gratifying in the end. Since having a Koi pond at your very own home can be a very relaxing scenery to look at, it would still entail hard work to maintain it properly and you would certainly need to purchase supplies for that.

More often, the concern in having your own fish pond is the water supply. Since these are animals that live in the water, it is necessary that you would be able to provide them enough water supply which resembles their own habitat. It is essential that you provide your Koi fish with enough clean and fresh water to keep them alive and to avoid the fish from getting sick.

If you are to get your pond water from tap water, you have to make sure that you have water filters installed on it. This is for the reason that some residential areas mostly had their water supply treated with chlorine and other chemicals. These chemicals may be harmful to your fish and could lessen its span of life. With the use of a water filter, you would be able to fitter out these additives before it reaches your pond.

Speaking of filters, aside from your own water filters, you should also include an efficient filtration system for your Koi pond. This would then keep the water clean and free from bacteria which may evolve from the waste material produced by the fish, as well as keep the water balanced for any possible chemical reaction that may occur within the pond.

You should also consider getting heaters for your fish pond to regulate the temperature of the water in the pond. To keep your fish alive for a longer period of time, you also have to monitor the temperature of the water in the pond. If the water is too cold, heaters can help regulate the temperature to keep the environment fit for a vigorously growing Koi pond.

Inspirational How to Build a Patio

How to Build a Patio

Adding a patio in your home enhances the overall beauty of your residence. But it can be a costly endeavor and you need ask for help from your friends or someone that knows how to do it so that your project will succeed and make your time worthwhile. It will also quicken and make the whole process enjoyable if you ask for help.

MATERIALS NEEDED IN CONSTRUCTING A PATIO

The materials that you need for this project are concrete, cement, pavers, pressure-treated wood, stones and gravel.

TOOLS

The tools needed for the project are ruler, tape, a wheelbarrow, shovel, saw, sledge hammer, nails and drill.

STEPS IN BUILDING A PATIO

Examining your residence and the surrounding area will help you determine what kind of patio that you want. Decide the overall size of your place and the building materials that you want to utilize. It is advisable to pick materials that are the same to that of your abode so that it matches your project. Be sure that you will pick materials that will match your requirements and budget.

Remember that your materials should be suitable for different kinds of weather all throughout the year. Like avoiding choosing concrete as your material if you live in an area with hot weather because it absorbs heat. Utilizing a frame before constructing your patio is an excellent idea because it allows you to imagine the finish product and simplifies the whole building process.

Construct a frame made out of wood in your construction area to determine the size of space and give it some breadth and dimension. Utilizing the material that you have chosen, line the space for the patio according to the design that you want and do some additional touches.

You can start on your project with materials like pavers, stones and others. Dig the area at least ten inches deep and fix it with stones. You have to be one hundred percent sure that your area veers away from your residence. The slope should be .25 inches for every twelve inches to the land area. This will help prevent H2O stagnation.

Carefully place gravel to a one inch depth. Fix any bumps so that it levels correctly. Place sand above the area and fix any uneven area. Place pavers depending in the pattern that you want. Stabilize the whole set-up by placing sand and water over it.

After you have fixed the area around your area, you should shift your attention on what kind of furniture and additional décor that you want to install in your patio. But make sure that it can adapt to any weather conditions so that it can last for a long time.

ADDITIONAL TIPS

You should make sure that the overall design of your area matches the design of your home. The wood that you used for the support should be water resistant and of top quality to ensure its longevity.
