Inspirational Grow Organic Vegetables

Since childhood we have all been advised by our mothers to consume fresh vegetables and fruits as snacks and not potato chips. Snacking on fruits and vegetables like carrot are much better than having junk as snacks. But in the present times a lot of vegetables have lost their quality. This is because they are not produced in the healthy way.

Vegetables fruits that are procured from the market contain a lot of pesticides. This is why doctors advise not to have them raw. But there is an alternative. If you want to consume fresh fruits and vegetables, you can grow organic vegetables in your gardens. It is an easy thing to do. They have a lot of nutrients that were found in the vegetables of yesteryears.

They taste better than those that are found in the market. You can grow them with organic fertilizer instead of chemical ones which harm your body in the form of pesticides. Organic vegetables will keep you healthy and fit. It is best to grow vegetables on your own and consume them.

The steps to grow some vegetables organically:

Radish: if you are a beginner in the field of gardening, radish is an excellent option to start with. They can be produced in any type of climate. It is possible to grow this vegetable all the year round in places which have temperate climate. They grow quite rapidly. They can grow within four to five weeks.

Radish is usually not affected by and diseases or by pests. You need not be too careful with them. They need ample water if you are growing them in summer season. But so much of water is not required in winter season. You should pick up these veggies as soon as they are somewhat big. Otherwise if they stay on in the fields like that they tend to become hard and woody and lose all their taste.

Capsicum: the growing conditions of capsicum are quite similar to that of chilies. They grow best when climate is warm. If temperatures are very low they will take a long time to grow. They will grow to a maximum length of 80 cm. these are easy to grow vegetables and you can grow them even on pots. You can sow capsicum seeds in boxes during springtime. As they mature, you can transplant them into beds.

You need to fertilize these with organic pellets. These vegetables can be harvested in any season. If you want the fruits to have a higher concentration of vitamin c, you can harvest when they have turned red.

Cherry Tomatoes: tomatoes grow best in cold climates. Cherry tomatoes are the easiest tomatoes to grow. This is why a lot of beginners grow tomatoes when they start off with their gardening. These are excellent vegetables to grow. During harvest time, harvest them as fast as you can. This will ensure that you have plenty of harvest.

Say bye to the unhealthy market vegetables and include home grown organic vegetables in your diet.

Beautiful Paper Fiber Wicker Patio Sets

Paper Fiber Wicker Patio Sets

Wicker patio sets are a popular choice for outdoor furniture. The most common type of wicker is made from wood like bamboo or rattan, while an all-weather synthetic resin wicker has revolutionized the market. However, there was a short period of time when another material called paper fiber was the prime choice in wicker furniture.

The original name of the material was fiber reed and art fiber, but today it is mainly called paper wicker or creative twist. Unlike original wicker, which dates back to ancient Egyptian times, the process of using paper fiber originated right here in the United States. In 1904 paper fiber was created out of manmade, chemically treated kraft paper that was twisted into ropelike structures. The reason paper fiber was invented was because an embargo was placed on oriental rattan coming in to the USA, and so became much harder to come by and also thereby more costly. In addition, it saved manpower and the tedious amount of time required to hand weave elaborate Victorian style furniture. The cheap new alternate material still managed to resemble expensive Victorian rattan imports, and thusly achieved incredibly popularity in wicker patio sets up through the 1930s.

Paper proved to be a very versatile and easy to work with material, in addition to its low production costs. The base pulp is first treated with sizing and glue and then twisted into strands that resemble rattan. Because of its properties, paper was a good choice for wicker patio sets as it could be fashioned into many sizes and colors due to its porous nature and can easily be manipulated without having to soak the wicker as was the case with reed wicker.

As one would assume, paper fiber quickly became stiff competition for traditional rattan. Not only was it cheaper but it was easier to repaint than rattan. Once industrialization set in, all wicker became mass-produced, rather than woven by hand. The Lloyd Loom was created in 1917 to more quickly and efficiently weave products while lowering production and labor costs. Then, in the 1920s, a wire core was added to the fiber strands to reinforce them.

Paper fiber found another outlet beyond wicker patio sets. Wooden chair manufacturers used the new material, which was now available in sheets, as the seat bottoms of wood chairs. Consumers of paper fiber liked how it came in a continuous strand, so there was no need to worry about joining multiple pieces together. It also took well to varnish and lacquers. So common was its occurrence in pop culture that classrooms and social groups would engage in art fiber weaving.

The problem however, with paper fiber is that in the long run it did not prove to be as durable as other types of wicker. Also, it did not bounce back as well from being wet as wood wicker. Paper fiber wicker patio sets fell out of favor in the 1940s, helped probably in part by the onset of WWII. Although it's not produced much these days, you can still find paper fiber furniture, and original versions from the early 1900s are coveted by antique collectors.

Lovely Finding a Proper Patio Canopy

Finding a Proper Patio Canopy

A patio canopy is often mistaken as a patio cover but it is not. A cover is often a fixture, part of the home while a canopy can either be attached or be portable. Patio canopies are also made of durable canvas materials that can stand up to harsh weather. Still some manufacturers will call their products canopies even though they are made of aluminum. When you think of patio canopies, Sunbrella may paint a better picture of what they are. They produce the best in heavy duty canvas canopies.

It does have some similarities to the patio cover. For instance, both provide shade and protection from the sun and rain. But typically a patio canopy is closer to an umbrella. They can be large and rectangular or come in the standard octagonal shape. They can stand alone or fit into tables. They can even be installed to cover your patio swing. You can basically get patio covers in any shape and size you need.

Being an outdoor furniture item the fabric the outdoor patio canopy is made of will be durable and weather treated. While you can always remove the cover and store it away it can also be trusted to endure any elements it comes up against. They will come clean easily should any debris dirty them up. The larger they are the more room you have to enjoy yourself with your guests. Whether it's pool side or just outdoors on a warm sunny day, patio canopies are a sure hit.

You can find all kinds of accessories with them as well. Lights can be hung under them. Some have eaves for further sun screening. You can even get them to fold all the way down for complete privacy. These will have a door that zips like a tent. A mesh netting will sometimes be included for protection against flying insects.

You can leave your canopy out all year long if you want. It's that durable. The canvas that is used is made with a coating of polyethylene and polyester fiber that is breathable and easy to clean. It is less prone to dry rot because of the safety coating too. Whatever need you have for a patio canopy, you know you are making a wise investment.

Inspirational a Wooden Garden Shed

A Wooden Garden Shed

A wooden garden shed is a value packed addition to backyard life.  Whether the purpose of the shed is strictly for storage or to create a private oasis, there is a perfect garden shed for everyone.

Historically all out buildings including sheds were intended for utilitarian purposes.  In the case of a shed, it was generally intended to store outdoor equipment such as lawn mowers, rakes and shovels.  In later years the backyard shed was sued to store bicycles, skateboards, and lawn furniture.  Although the contents of the shed might have varied the utilitarian nature of the shed stayed the same.

These days wooden garden sheds can serve a variety of different purposes besides being a storage area.  Below are two non conventional uses of garden sheds.

1.  A  Playhouse for children.  An average sized shed can be easily transformed into the perfect playhouse for your children.  It provides a place for children to play during the rainy days and can also provide a quiet outdoor space for a child to read or complete a craft.  The interior walls of the shed can be quickly covered in panelling and painted a child friendly colour.

2.  A hobby room.  Do you have a serious hobby or craft that takes a fair bit of room?  If so, transforming a backyard shed into a private hobby room is a great idea.  With the additional of a work bench, the shed can be a place for you to store your tools and materials and half finished project away from curious little hands.  An outdoor shed is perfect for a sewing room, a writing room, or an area for handicrafts such as weaving or stained glass,

Not only have the traditional uses of a garden shed changed so has the outward appearance of the shed.  These days a wooden garden shed can be quite attractive. As people begin to spend more and more time in their backyards they began to be more concerned with the appearance of their shed.   Windows and skylights allow natural light to flow into the shed.  The windows are often complimented by window boxes and or shutters.  Instead of being the standard plywood walls and asphalt roofs, today's sheds often have attractive siding such as board and batten siding and metal roofs.  The addition of a little stone patio or a small landing in front of the shed door completes the picture.

Be creative when designing your new backyard shed.  Try to think of a number of different ways your family could use the shed.  Remember,  sheds are not just for storage.  A wooden garden shed is a great addition to your back yard.

Best of Which Outdoor Fire Pit Works Best for Me?

Which Outdoor Fire Pit Works Best For Me?

Since ancient times, fire pits have served as focal points for both work and play. This remains true into the modern era, as fire pits continue to evolve. Current designs blend modern engineering with ancient principles to present a dizzying array of choices to anyone simply wishing to choose the best outdoor fire pit for their circumstances. There are a variety of styles from which to choose, as well as materials with unique decorative properties, and accessories that add whole new dimensions onto the containment of fire. Much of your reason for choosing one pit over another will involve expense, size, portability and other factors. Even so, each design offers various practical advantages that can influence your choice.

Perhaps the most common design is the traditional round pit, often a barrel or kettle. Not only are these fairly easy to make, but they also include many practicalities such as grills for food preparation. Barrels are typically metallic, though clay and light concrete are also employed in some designs.

Fire bowls consist of a copper or iron bowl which contains the fire, elevated above the surface via support legs or a pedestal. These structures promote the most campfire-like aesthetic while simultaneously offering modern conveniences, such as built-in racks for storing wood or other supplies.

Chimney pits are an eye-catching feature that adds a Mexican aesthetic to your yard. Commonly made of clay but with more modern metal designs, these pits' unique shapes are great at generating large amounts of heat. Also, some chimney fire pits contain grills and can be used for outdoor cooking. Chimneys also channel smoke more effectively, avoiding the shifting smoke commonly a pain for those wishing to enjoy a recreational fire. Unlike other models, however, chimneys must often be cured before use to ensure longevity.

If you're looking for something unique, then the pagoda style may be for you. These fire pits are taller, similar to the chimney model, but exemplify an Asian rather than a Mexican motif. Also, similar to chimneys, many include grills for cooking meals outside.

The most elaborate design by far is the outdoor fireplace, of which the chimney and pagoda style are two variations. These styles tend to be more vertical and contained than are bowls and barrels, and also tend to offer more customization options and require more maintenance. These can often be more decorative than are barrels and bowls, and may serve better in instances where you wish for the fire pit to be a major aesthetic focus of your yard, however it is important to pay attention to any special maintenance or safety concerns when considering more elaborate materials.

Fire pits can add new life to your yard. They can make it a focal point for outdoor cooking and meal preparation, as well as a warm space to relax during chilly nights. The many choices available in fire pit designs and features means that surely one is available to satisfy whatever needs and decorative concerns you may have.

Beautiful Swimming Pool Sand Filter Specification

Swimming Pool Sand Filter Specification
Sand filter media are beds of granular material, or sand, drained from
underneath so that pretreated wastewater can be treated, collected and
distributed to the land application system. They are normally used
to polish effluent from septic tanks or
other treatment processes before it is
distributed on the land. All on-site
systems are no-discharge, meaning
the wastewater must stay in the
system and not leave the property. The wastewater cannot enter surface
water, streams, ditches or any water
resources. After the filtrate is collected
by the sand filters under drains, it is
then disposed of by a soil absorption
system.

Intermittent sand filters provide biodegradation or decomposition of wastewater constituents
by bringing the wastewater into close contact with a well developed aerobic biological
community attached to the surfaces of the filter media. This process requires unsaturated
downward flow of the effluent through a filter media which may be a mineral sand or
equivalently sized crushed glass meeting one of the media.

The Sand filter media is contained in a watertight vessel either below the surface of the ground or wholly
or partially elevated in a containment vessel. Proper function requires that the influent to the
filter be distributed over the media in controlled, uniform doses. In order to achieve accurate
dosing, these systems require a timer controlled pump with associated pump tank, electrical
components, and distribution network to deliver a minimum of 12 doses per day spread evenly
over a 24 hour period. The effluent is collected in the bottom of the sand filter and discharged
either by gravity or pressure to a suitable disposal component, usually a sub-surface drainfield.
This technology is used on sites with high groundwater levels and/or shallow soil conditions
where treatment must be accomplished before disposal. Intermittent sand filters are also used
as part of a mitigation strategy when horizontal separations are reduced.

Media Specifications -- The filter media must meet either the Coarse Sand Media or
the Sand Filter Media specifications for particle size gradation detailed in Appendix
A. Filter media used in constructing a sand filter must be accompanied with a written
certification from the supplier that the sand fully conforms to one of the media.

Treated Wastewater (Filtrate) Collection and Discharge -- Filtrate may be collected and
discharged from the bottom of the sand filter by either a gravity flow underdrain, or pumped
from a pump basin. When sand filters are membrane-lined, gravity flow underdrains must exit
through a boot. The boot and exit pipe must be watertight.

Sand filter media Filteration

Filtration is the last unit process in pretreatment of
water
Water flows either by gravity or under pressure
through a filter media like sand or anthracite
Suspended solids and flocs formed previously by
coagulation and flocculation are retained on the
filter surface
Once the pressure drop exceeds the set limit, the
filer bed is cleaned by back washing the media
by reversal of flow of water
The filter is now ready for use.

Lovely Garden Design with Hot Peppers

Garden Design With Hot Peppers

Growing hot peppers is an easy and satisfying garden task. Since they originated from Central America they like lots of heat and plenty of water, but like many other plants, they don't like waterlogged roots. Therefore make sure to use well drained containers or plant them in a nice mulched soil. Peppers are very hungry species as well.

A decorative Plant due to its vivid colors

Like most plants and especially the with the cultivated ones you will find many varieties of them. Not all peppers are really that Hot and they come in a multitude of different colors.

If you grow different varieties of hot peppers, you'll have a rainbow of color in the garden, because they come in all different hues, from bright scarlet through to purples; from yellow through to orange - and of course, green. However, you do need to keep the different types apart from each other or the bees will cross-pollinate, giving rather different tastes to the peppers than is expected. Whatever your reason of growing them is this class of plants can be used as a valuable garden design or landscaping tool.

Easy to grow

You can grow the plant easily from seed. It's even possible to use the seed from the peppers from your supermarket. To start those plants all you need do is scrape out the seed and plant it. Or you can buy special varieties of seed from a seed supplier. Your nursery will also have small plants in baskets for you to place straight into the garden or container.

If growing them by seed, place one seed into each cell of the punned and transplant only after the second set of leaves are well grown and the plants are about 0.5 to 1 Inch high. The first leaves are not true leaves, but like many other plants are the seed leaves and bear no resemblance to the shape of the true leaves. The second set of leaves will have the true shape, though they will be miniatures at first.

Peppers Thrive on Lots of Water and Sun

Once transplanted, peppers like lots of water and heat - and extra fertilizer after the flowers appear. This can be in the form of weekly applications of liquid fertilizer. The soil will need to be well prepared beforehand with lots of well-rotted manure and compost. Hot peppers don't like cold frost - so keep them in a sheltered place for maximum growing time. They should also be sheltered from strong winds.

Hot Peppers in your Garden means keeping pests at bay

Peppers growing in the garden will do a great deal of good in keeping pests at bay, as many insects don't like their scent. However, the cutworm finds them a tasty snack, so you may need to put a collar on your young seedlings to keep them off. If cutworm's trouble you too much you can easily grow peppers in an indoor setting until they are much bigger. Just make sure they get enough light or sun from a windowsill or sunny porch.

Inspirational Plan for Kitchen Garden | Kitchen Garden Decor

Plan for kitchen garden | kitchen garden Decor

If you are one of those who absolutely love to spend their time in the kitchen, as you experiment with different ingredients and herbs and invent new recipes, then you are obviously interested in making your work area more delightful and interesting. Ever thought about having an outdoor kitchen? Well if you have made up your mind about having an outdoor kitchen or are contemplating the idea, this is the article that will help you make up your mind and finalize your outdoor kitchen plans.

Outdoor Kitchen Plans

Before building an outdoor kitchen you will have to ensure that your outdoor kitchen plan fits the legal constraints. Make sure you check the zoning requirements in your country so that you can ensure that your outdoor kitchen is at a legal distance from the property lines. Although a permit for the kitchen construction wont be necessary, you will have to acquire permits for the plumbing and electrical fittings.

Remember that an outdoor kitchen is not merely an outdoor barbeque station; it is a complete kitchen with all the grills, cookware, storage cabinets, a dishwasher, oven, and also the refrigerator! While making your outdoor kitchen plans make sure to pick a spot that is not exposed to too much wind, snow or rain. Shelter the spot adequately to provide shelter from the weather but keep it open enough, so that you can roast your delicious barbeque and bake your mouth watering apple pie, even when you can enjoy the sight of drizzles. Usually a patio area is the perfect spot for an outdoor kitchen.

A washing sink is a must for any kitchen. Ensure you have an adequately large sink with undisturbed water supply. The height and the placement of the sink should be such that it is comfortable for the person who is cooking, to reach out to the sink for disposing used utensils. Plumbing work needs to be done for this and hence it would be a great idea to inform the plumber and hire his services with prior intimation.

Depending on the space available, incorporate other useful elements like a storage shelf to store your cookware, a rod with hooks to hang your pans comfortably. In case the space and electrical fittings allow you, incorporate other electrical appliances like a refrigerator, or a blender to assist you while you are cooking outdoors. In case you can't get enough electrical fittings, try and use the conventional grinding tools like a mortar and a pestle, it is said that a puree of herbs made in a blender can never match the crude and mesmerizing aroma of herbs ground using the mortar and a pestle.

While designing the kitchen, make sure that you get the perfect countertop. It is advisable to get a countertop with inlaid grills for cooking. If you are planning to use an electric grill, the electricity connections need to be in place. Make sure that the counter top is wide enough and comfortable high for you to work in the kitchen. A barbeque will be a must-have for an outdoor kitchen, since outdoor cooking is almost synonymous with barbeque parties.

In case gardening is also one of your hobbies then you can enhance your outdoor kitchen further. Wouldn't it be a great idea to have home cooked meals with fresh vegetables and herbs from your very own garden? Yes, plant a vegetable and herb garden right next to your outdoor kitchen. Every time you decide to cook, all you need to do is pick up some fresh veggies, and aromatic herbs from your very own garden, put on your apron and get started!

How to avoid pits and falls of Smartphone application development?

The answer is simple, Smartphone applications development require something more than mere programming. Today's post will uncover how to avoid most common pits and falls of mobile application development.Whether you are developing iPhone, Android, J2Me or Blackberry application yourself or getting it developed from a social media agency, you need to take care of the following pointers.

Forgetting the User

Usually the application developers are technical guys not like you and me. When they develop they focus on the application, its function and compatibility. Most of the time, they forget the user of the application. If this is the case you must understand why, who and how is the user going to use this application.

Over specifying yourself

If you think you are developing an application only for iPhone because you customers use only this platform think again. Your application must be focused to be compatible with every platform from developments side as well as from viewers screen size and navigation purposes. If your apps limits to only your specification you are going to bound yourself.

Limited Considerations

If your application doesn't give freedom to the user like colors then it surely going towards a limitation. Most users find difficult to read with different colors. Color, clarity and choice is what your customer is looking for, else other choices are also welcoming.

Ignoring Integration

When you designed mobile application is isolated in itself the user would easily get bored and switched towards a better option. Ignoring integration is the last mistake you can make. Instead try to insert options for integration with your web, social networks and emails to give freedom of expression to the user.

Over doing it

If you develop an application that is jack of all but master of none, it's not going to work. Most users like solutions for their problems rather than an application for distraction. This means your application must be a focused one and its usage must be optimized according to traveling needs.

Indifferences

If you application seems to function differently on different platform it is an alarming sigh. You must look for intuitive applications controls and these apps must perform with the same speed and functions on every platform you use.

Lovely Garden Design - Where It Got Its Roots

Garden Design - Where it Got Its Roots

Garden design through the centuries has developed from man's attempt to establish a satisfying relationship with nature, and from his social customs. Gardens have been molded by his philosophy and living standards as well as by the climate and character of the land in which he lived. Fads and fancies have influenced the design at times, but such innovations have not survived unless they were based on firm concepts.

Ruskin wrote: "Architecture is the art which so arranges a structure that a view of it brings a sense of pleasure, power and mental health to all who see it." Good landscape planning must stand the same test.

History

Three great historical forces have influenced garden design: the Chinese, Persian and Greco-Roman.

Chinese art was based on the premise that man was part of nature and that his peace depended on his orderly adjustment to her moods. Inspiration came from the power of her storms, mountains and waterfalls. This art developed over centuries, traveled to Japan and began to influence European gardens about 200 years ago.

Though few of us appreciate "Japanese" gardens in entirety, there is a lot of this simplicity in modern gardens where nature is represented by strategically placed individual plants rather than elaborate horticultural displays. It is applicable to Canada, where many find satisfaction in association with nature.

The Persians had to struggle against the wind and sand of the desert. They found paradise in an intimate walled garden, full of useful, edible plants, where water and shade provided relaxation at midday. They fitted nature to meet their needs. Inspiration came from the artist's conception of an engineer's efficiency. The style spread to Spain and thence to California. It is a strong influence in modern gardens because it is so practical for people who have only a small area.

Western Civilization springing from Greece and Rome, was very different.

Man set out to understand and conquer nature at the risk of destroying her and himself. The climax of this regimentation of nature was reached in the classical gardens of the renaissance period in Italy and France. These were built to impress the masses with the power of authority rather than for their relaxation.

Reaction to the classic formality started in England. The pendulum swung back and forth through various short-lived fads culminating in the English park style of the late-eighteenth century. In the end, the Chinese love of nature and the British love of growing things won over the Greco-Roman influence.

The industrial age of the nineteenth century subjected nature to materialism. It created a new wealthy class of people who could afford cheap labor to look after large private gardens and landscaping with privacy. At the same time, greater travel facilities increased the exchange of ideas and the variety of horticultural materials. Gardens were cared for by skilled gardeners who had little appreciation of architectural design, so that gardens became places to accommodate plants rather than people.

In North America, so far as climate would allow, garden design was copied from our various countries of origin until the 20th century. The results varied from the unplanned gardens of those who liked to grow flowers as a hobby to the large private estates planned by professional landscape architects and cared for by trained gardeners.

Starting with the depression years of the 1930's, the number of large private estates gradually declined until today very few of them remain.

Probably the greatest step forward in gardening on this continent during the last century was the creation of Central Park in New York City by Frederick Law Olmstead. This was the first of the large public parks planned for human relaxation rather than to impress.

Unique Pk Mix for the Home Vegetable Garden

PK Mix for the Home Vegetable Garden
The other day, John was out for a walk through his neighborhood and he happened to notice a backyard garden unlike any he had seen before. John was a gardener himself and he could not help but wonder what the secret of this mystery gardener was. While his own tomato and pepper plants were producing a host of fruit, the tomatoes were not ripening and the peppers seemed to be dwarfed. Finally, his curiosity got the best of him. He decided to knock on the front door of the house with the magnificent garden and ask a few questions.

A few moments passed before a pop-bellied man with a wild head of loosely curled hair swung the door open. John felt a momentary rush of anxiety but pressed through and offered a formal introduction. He explained that he noticed the man's garden with its enormous summer-red, ripe tomatoes and pepper plants bursting with mature fruit. The man smiled at John and informed him that he was the second inquirer that week. John asked him what his secret was.

The man replied that there was no secret-at least, not one that was intentionally covered up. The truth was, that most soils are low in P.K. soil mix, also known as Phosphorus and Potassium. Fertilizers and composts are rich in Nitrogen content, extremely so, in many cases, but often lack adequate amounts of Potassium and Phosphorus. What that means for the gardener is that he or she will have tall, green, leafy plants with a panoply of buds and immature fruit, but nothing ripe for the harvest. Nitrogen is a great nutrient for encouraging plants to grow generous root systems so they can get big and thick, but without enough P.K mix, seeds and fruit suffer, sometimes to the end of producing nothing ripe at all.

For John and every gardener who has suffered a similar fate, the good news is a relief. Even in August, it is not too late to remedy the soil mixture and provoke a harvest of ripeness. A quick trip to a local gardening store can solve the problem.

A week after putting the mix on his garden, John felt obligated to go back to the man's house and thank him. He was surprised by how quickly his garden had responded. Tomatoes that had grown bulging and green were ripe, as if overnight, and the peppers were already as big as many found in the supermarket. This simple solution saved John's garden, and for anyone out there who has observed the same symptoms in their own garden, it is not too late to respond. One note of caution however, should be taken. As with nitrogen burn, too much of a good thing, like Phosphorus and Potassium, can kill an eager plant. About the Author

New New Windows for Your House

New Windows For Your House

Windows have become a very important part of your interior settings, and unlike the past, have developed a market for themselves. They no longer are seen as an addition to doors, since doors have always fascinated home buyers, who look for different aesthetically attractive and novel designs on doors. Windows have also started creating a similar market, with designs and styles that range from the ordinary to the highly stylish, adorning homes, and thereby making it more appealing.

Different window manufactures both from within the country as well as imported products; compete for the attention of a home buyer. Catalogues are abound with designs, and these windows are being made of different materials as well. Metal windows, windows made of wood as well as fiber loaded windows are available in the market. In fact, some companies have started marketing their products using the tag line of eco-friendly products, and energy efficient as well, and claim to help you get energy tax credits; thereby helping you save on energy bills as well as tax bill. When you think about having new windows for your home, as a replacement or for a new house that you are constructing, the different ideas that normally come to your mind are either metal ones or wooden ones. Both have its advantages as well as disadvantages.

While metal windows are more or less safe from weather conditions and do not have to be treated differently to protect from the weather, they tend to look a bit industrial in appearance. They are more suited for offices or factories and tend to look less appealing. Wooden windows on the other hand, are very appealing in nature, and if you opt for a paint finish that shall compliment that wood polish look, the entire interior could look really attractive and aesthetically beautiful. Add to it some fine drapes, and you have a perfect setting. The biggest disadvantage as far as wooden windows are concerned is that they are to be protected from the vagaries of weather, be it too much of rain or too much of sunshine. Also, they tend to more expensive that metal windows as the woodwork that is involved in certain windows cannot be easily done by machines and hence requires expert hand work. This makes it very expensive.

While wooden windows are differentiated by way of designs made on them, metal windows are segregated depending upon the style. Some very common styles are Casement windows, awning windows, double hung or gliding windows, bay windows, picture windows or specialty windows. Of these gliding windows are the most common due to the ease of operation as well as space utility. Casement windows tend to need more space for operation while bay windows are not that easy to maintain, though they do look very majestic and give a great view.

Inspirational Swimming Pool Sand Filter Specification

Swimming Pool Sand Filter Specification
Swimming Pool sand Filters

Keeping a pool clean calls for a multi-level maintenance strategy. The pools grate and skimmer
baskets will catch the bigger, more visible items that float by. Micro-scopic bacteria require
sanitizing chemical additives. For most of the other stuffthe little particles that can make your
water look cloudy and disagreeablethe filter is the best defense.
There are three types of filter systems: sand, cartridge, and diatomaceous earth (DE). All three
systems are effective and will keep your water clean. The cartridge filter requires less
maintenance, so it is rising in popularity.

Sand

Though cartridge filters are popular, Swimming Pool sand Filters are still very common. They rely on very fine
particles of sandfiner than what youd find at the beachto catch small particles you dont want
in your water. Compared to other types of filters, sand is a little less effectivethat is, it will let
some smaller particles pass through into the pool. In addition, sand needs to be cleaned
manually every few weeks and changed at least once a season.

Cartridge
These are like the water filter you may have under your kitchen
sink. Water passes through the filter and catches small, offending
particles. Generally, cartridge filters have more square feet of
catching area than sand filters, so they need to be cleaned less
often; high-end models will last a whole season. And they are
easy to clean: Just hose them off. In terms of effectiveness, they
are between sand and DE filters for particle-catching ability. They
work best with low water pressure, so they partner well with
energy- saving pump systems.

DE (Diatomaceous Earth)

These Swimming Pool sand Filters contain a fine powder of diatomaceous earth, which
is actually fossilized exo-skeletons of tiny diatoms. The powder
coats the filter and works like a sieve to remove particles. This
type of filter is the most effective at keeping the water clean.
Whichever type of filter you choose, good maintenance will help
keep your whole pump/filtration system working efficiently. To
gauge when its time to clean the filter, keep an eye on the pressure, or psi, level in your pool.
Take note of the pressure level when the filter is clean. When you notice that the pressure has
risen about 10 psi, its time to clean the filter. The water circulation system for all types of filters
works best at low water pressure levels.

Filtermaster Sand Filters are manufactured with
high grade breglass and resins utilising the latest
engineering techniques ensuring high quality and
superior strength for long life and durability.

Luxury Important Swimming Pools Info

Important Swimming Pools Info

The reasons why people want a swimming pool in Melbourne vary. Some want it for recreational purposes, while others view it as a way to stay fit or lose weight. Whatever the reasoning behind their decision for the construction of a pool may be, here are some important facts to consider.

Which pool is right for you?

Nobody should tell you which type of pool you should build. That should be entirely your decision. You determine its shape, the dimensions, depth, and the building materials. The in-ground swimming pools your neighbours have may be perfect for them, but totally wrong for you. The dimensions of your pool will often be influenced by your available backyard space.

How do you determine your design?

There are many sites advertising swimming pools in Melbourne. Study the various pictures they publish, as well as those you will find in brochures published by pool construction companies. Comparing the various illustrations will give a fair idea about how to maximise the entry steps for your swimming pool in Melbourne, or what kind of interior finish you prefer. It can also help you determine if you want a Fibreglass or concrete pool.

How much will you pay for your swimming pool in Melbourne?

There are different factors to consider when budgeting for a swimming pool. You can either have your pool installed by the first pool company you find in the phonebook, or you can shop around.  Ask several pool installers for a price list so you compare both their fees and services. Request an estimate and ask if they are willing to cut you a deal. If your funds are limited, you can also wait until the next pool sale comes along. Last year's models must make way for the newer designs.

How long does it take to install in-ground swimming pools?

The time needed to install a swimming pool in Melbourne depends on which type of pool you selected, how quickly the ground preparations can be completed, the local weather conditions, and which company is in charge of the installation. Some pools can be installed in a couple of weeks, while other installations will take much longer. Always ask your pool supplier for an estimated installation time.

How do you know which swimming pool firm is reliable?

There are several ways to determine which provider of swimming pools in Melbourne is reliable and which should be avoided.

- Ask other pool owners in your neighbourhood which pool company they hired. Were they pleased with the services they received? Find out what they liked about the firm, and what could have been better.

- Read reviews online about the pool companies in your area. Consumers often record their experiences on message boards and forums. Do not ignore them as some of these statements are very informative and can give you a fair idea about what to expect.

As a new pool owner, you will also have to take a number of safety precautions. Never leave children unattended around your pool – even if they can swim. Build a fence around the pool area so children and pets cannot get to the water. It is better to spend the money for safety measures now, than suffer the sad consequences.

Luxury the White House History

The White House History

The White House in the United States of America is not only the official home but also a workplace for the American presidents. In 1792, the commissioners of the Federal City decided to design a permanent home for the presidents.

George Washington, the first president of the United States, was the only president who lived his presidential period out of the white house.

The white house which had been occupied by John Adams and his wife Abigail for the first time in November 1800 was built during the years between 1792 and 1800 in Washington D.C.

The architect of the white house was James Hoban who designed the house in the Georgian style and received a $ 500 gold medal and a plot of land as a prize from Thomas Jefferson.

Thomas Jefferson was the president who ordered the building outward expansion. During the presidential period of James Polk, between the years 1845-1849, gas was piped in the white house and it was in the presidency of Benjamin Harrison that this official house felt the power of electric lighting.

The white house has been always a safe executive residence for all American presidents; but the year 1814 was the exception in the American history. On August 24, 1814 the British troops had been ordered to burn and destroy Washington D.C. and the white house. As a result whole parts of the house burnt and only exterior walls remained.

Today there are 132 rooms in the white house all of them have been the eyewitness of the formation of the United States' history.

In this article I am going to introduce some of the white house's room such as the "Blue Room", "Vermeil Room", "Red Room", "Green Room" and the "East Room".

The Blue Room:

This room has been located above the Diplomatic Reception Room. This room has always been used as a reception room but there is an exception during the presidency of John Adams as he used it as a south entrance hall. President Madison asked architect Benjamin Latrobe to design the Blue Room but most of the furniture burnt and destroyed in the fire of 1814.

President Monroe was a person who redecorated the room after reconstruction by the French style which has been remained until now.

The house was decorated in blue color during the presidency of Martin Van Buren in 1837, so the new decoration changed the Oval Room to the Blue Room.

The Green Room:

This room has been served different purposes as a "Lodging Room" and a green "Dining Room" for Thomas Jefferson, as a "Sitting Room" for James Madison and as a "Card Room" for Monroe.
This room was decorated in different styles by different presidents until the time of Theodore Roosevelt, when it was decorated by the 19th century American Furniture. Then Coolidge refurnished the Green Room by authentic Federal-period furniture.

The Red Room:

Red Room has been decorated by different style of furniture. Most of the United States' presidents have used this room as "Sitting Room"; but the Red Room served as "Yellow Drawing Room "for Madison.

In 1803, Benjamin Latrobe indicated that this room is suitable to serve as "the President's Antechamber" for the Cabinet Room or the President's Library. Recently presidents have used this room for small dinner parties.

The Vermeil Room:

The Vermeil Room or the Gold Room has been used as a Display Room or a Ladies Sitting Room for formal occasions. The room has been decorated in green background and gold silk highlights and furnished by a table in the Empire style, the gold walls also covered by the seven First Ladies' portraits.

The East Room:

This room has been used for different purposes such as dances, award presentations, weddings, funerals, bill-signing ceremonies, press conferences and generally for large gathering.

The East Room was designed by James Hoban as the "Public Audience Room". The room's wall has been covered by the portrait of George Washington, one of the few work pieces which remained after the fire of 1814, painted by Gilbert Stuart.

At the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, the East Room witnessed many activities during Civil War; Even Union Troops occupied the room for some days.

Unique Benefits of Professional Landscaping

Benefits of Professional Landscaping

Summer is here and there are always too many outdoor projects to take care of. Lawn and yard maintenance can be so difficult and time consuming that hiring a professional is always easier. Figuring out which plants to put where, how to get that tree stump out of the yard, what to do with certain spots in the yard and other minor and major details can be overwhelming to someone that has little experience doing landscaping or little time to do it. Hiring a trained professional is the answer to these problems and can make your life so much easier and worry free.

Everyone wants to come home to a beautiful yard. Stepping out of your car or walking up to the door can be so much more enjoyable when your little sanctuary is beautiful. Before you even walk into your house you can begin to feel that sense of relaxation and peace of mind that comes with having an attractive and beautiful home. Backyard retreat areas become little paradises when you have a nicely landscaped yard. With a little stoneworkand some professionally designed plant beds, your yard can become a place that recharges and rejuvenates your spirit. The energy and spirit of your own property can become a place of peace and tranquillity, helping you to more fully enjoy your property.

Beautifying your property with simple things like a little weeding and mulching, or with major projects like timber work or tree removal can do wonders to improve the property value of your home and land. An attractive yard is the first thing people see when they arrive at your home and landscape restoration can be one of the things that increases the value of you house and the value of the property you own. If you are thinking about selling your property, then definitely consider doing some landscaping to increase the appeal of your property and to improve the likelihood that you will sell the property. Landscape design is one of those things that can almost be subliminal, but matters quite a bit in how someone feels when they arrive at your house.

Having a beautiful yard can also increase the attractiveness of your entire neighborhood. It's nice to drive down a street that has beautifully manicured lawns and gardens. It gives the sense that the people who live in this neighborhood actually care about the place they live and take the time to make it a beautiful, attractive and inviting place.

Businesses can benefit tremendously from landscape design. A beautiful exterior can make a business much more inviting to customers and give a sense of professionalism to any building. It is like having an advertisement outside your establishment that conveys a welcoming message. Businesses that have beautifully landscaped exteriors are more likely to bring in customers because the entire feel of the environment is improved and people are naturally drawn to attractive places. Putting your businesses exterior on maintenance programs is a great way to have a beautifully landscaped property that you never have to think about.

Hiring a trained and competent professional is one way to ensure that your yard and landscape installation lasts a long time. Knowing which plants to put in what places is important to making sure that the plants thrive and flourish. Some plants do better near each other. Some plants do better with a lot of shade. Some plants do better in full sun. Some plants need to be trimmed in certain ways or at certain times. It's hard to know all this information, and having a professional to make these choices will ensure that the hard work that goes into your lawn and landscape will last a long time. There are many great landscaping companies you can find online such as www.landscapesasheville.com.

Unique Designing an Eco Friendly House for Tropical Climates

Designing an Eco Friendly House for Tropical Climates

No matter where you live, more and more people are taking ecological factors into consideration before starting to build or commissioning someone to build their own home. Many people are now looking for a building that encompasses the eco friendly design and energy saving principles.

In cooler climates it is becoming more common to Incorporate solar panels when building eco friendly houses, as this reduces energy bills and cuts carbon emissions.

How can you cut the carbon footprint of a building in a more tropical climate?  Here, your main concern will be keeping the house cool.  Standard air conditioning is expensive to run and adds greatly to a house's carbon footprint.  You will want to find a set of house plans that reduces or eliminates the need for air conditioning by using natural cooling methods and principles.

An architect with knowledge of these principles can design a house which takes full advantage of natural breezes and shade to keep your house as cool as possible without the use of air conditioning.

Of course there are other considerations, such as the need to reduce the energy used in manufacturing and transporting building materials.

On the late, great architect Laurie Baker's you will find a set of principles which he hand wrote and which are as relevant, if not more so, today as they were when he wrote them.

The include the advise to "study and know local materials" - the need to know how they perform and where to find workmen that understand their use. He also cautioned that you "don't rob national resources" - a fundamental principle of sustainable building.

He understood the need to "study and know energy" used in manufacturing and transporting materials.

Before starting to build an eco friendly house in a tropical climate you will want to find a set of house plans that take into consideration Laurie Baker's principles. As land costs are generally high, you will also want to find plans that make the maximum use of the space available and which will allow you to build a naturally cool and economical to run home.

Elegant Turn Your Porch into a Sunroom for Year-round Use

Turn Your Porch Into a Sunroom For Year-Round Use

Everyone enjoys an open porch in warm weather. It provides an extra space in the open air that is unmatched my patios or decks. It shades you from the sun and protects you from the rain. Some porches have a hanging swing or a hammock for maximum relaxation. But when the weather turns cold, an open-air porch can lose all its appeal and doesn't get much use until the weather warms up again. Enclosing your porch and turning it into a sunroom is a compelling option for porch-enthusiasts who want to add square footage to their house and enjoy the many benefits of a porch all year round.

Because much of the porch structure is already in place, turning it into a sunroom is a pretty uncomplicated project. Most of the time, depending on your specific porch, all that is required are installing some windows, adding insulation and possibly providing some extra heat - either through your home's existing furnace or adding a wood or gas fireplace. For maximum energy efficiency, use double-pane, low-e, tempered window glass.

A sunroom is ideal for entertaining guests, relaxing and adding to the resale value of your home. They can be a variety of styles and designs, including sloped roofs, gable roofs, solarium-style curved glass roofs and Victorian-style conservatories with glass or polycarbonate roofs. A sunroom addition can add more light to a home that might not have a lot of southern exposure. The extra ambient light can make a smaller home appear larger.

Adding a sunroom costs less than a conventional household addition, and can be built where local building codes and zoning ordinances restrict backyard additions. Because of the financial and usage benefits, sunrooms are a popular amenity requested by potential homebuyers. Homes with an appropriately designed sunroom are likely to sell faster and for more money than those without. Usually, a sunroom addition is not considered to be a square footage addition to your home. Check the local ordinances to be sure.

Sunrooms give a sensation of being outdoors while providing indoor comforts. They can be the perfect place for a hot tub, an exercising / recreation room, a child's play room, a home office, or a peaceful, relaxing spot to unwind with a good book. Many sunroom owners plant bushes and flowers around their enclosure to enjoy nature from the comfort and protection of their sunroom.

Create a sunroom that will add to the architectural beauty of your home. It can save you money on your energy bills, create extra space, increase the overall value of your house, add striking natural light to your home, and bring you closer to the environment and surroundings in which your family lives.

Unique Kitchen Greenhouse Window

Kitchen Greenhouse Window
If you like cooking with fresh herbs, and enjoy the incredible fragrance they add to your home, a kitchen greenhouse window can open a world of possibilities. With a kitchen greenhouse window, you can bring the outdoors inside and grow your own herbs, and even fresh vegetables and flowers. A kitchen greenhouse window can add up to twice the natural light to your kitchen, and you can have fresh herbs and vegetables at your fingertips throughout the year.

The Mini-Solarium

While the styles can vary slightly, a kitchen greenhouse window is essentially a box-like structure with light transmitting panels at the top, side and front. Because a kitchen greenhouse window projects out, it will expand your kitchen and bathe the room in sunlight.

You will want to select a kitchen greenhouse window with a tough, durable frame, and preferably one that doesn't need painting. Your kitchen greenhouse window may need to be custom built and can be difficult to install. Finding a manufacturer that is willing to work with you no matter what your needs are can save you a lot of time and aggravation.

Working with someone who has experience installing greenhouse windows can help ensure that there are no gaps between the frames, which would not only let heat out, but would also let cold winter air in and could kill your plants.

You will want to make sure that your kitchen greenhouse window has a durable, waterproof bottom shelf, and will find that one or more adjustable glass shelves can be very useful. Some kitchen greenhouse windows can even be installed as counter top extensions.

This type of kitchen greenhouse window provides a stunning panoramic view. While it is always a good idea to install support brackets on the exterior of the house to help hold up the window and support the weight you are going to put on it, this becomes increasingly important with an extended countertop model.

While it is a good idea to go with material that matches your other windows, you should consider that vinyl has less conductivity, thereby providing more heat in your window, as well as more resistance to condensation than an aluminum window. Depending on the location of your window, you may need to install a greenhouse window opener to keep your plants from overheating in the summer. With a kitchen greenhouse window, you can become an avid gardener, as well as a seasoned chef.

Best of What's in Wicker Patio Sets?

What's in Wicker Patio Sets?

For the perfect addition to your covered porch or sunroom, consider wicker patio sets. But before you hit the store, did you know that there is more than one type of wicker? Actually, there are multiple similar materials that call themselves wicker, each with a slightly different look and characteristics from those of its peers. Get ready to learn something, it's time for Wicker 101.

The term wicker merely refers to the familiar woven pattern consisting of flexible branches, vines, reeds, grasses, etc. but not actually a material itself. The origin of the word is believed to come from the Scandinavian wika meaning to bend and vikker meaning wicker. The actual process of making wicker involves the weaving together or caning of fibers into chairs, tables, baskets, etc. The interlacing patterns are then usually secured to a base framework and voila, wicker patio sets for everyone. The frames themselves are typically constructed out of wood or aluminum.

Willow
Willow is an easily recognizable tree, known for its sloping branches and so-called "weeping" appearance. It grows in temperate regions like Europe and North America. A light, yet durable wood, willow grows rapidly and is flexible because of how well it retains moisture, making it good for the weaving of wicker patio sets. Because of this, it's also long-lasting.

Reed
Reed is one of the oldest materials found in wicker. It dates back to ancient Egyptian handiwork but still can be found today. Reed comprises various swamp grasses woven together with a straw-like texture. Sometimes the term reed also refers to the core of rattan vines. The material was used exclusively on early American wicker furniture.

Bamboo
Found in southeastern Asian, bamboo is an extremely prolific grower that consists of tall tropical grasses. It can thrive in both tropical and temperate climates, and grow up to a few feet per day! There are hundreds of bamboo species but they are all recognizable by their nodular growth and hollow stems. Bamboo is one of the more common wood that makes up wicker furniture.

Rattan
Rattan is the most popular wood when it comes to wicker because of its price and availability. Rattan refers to a grouping of roughly 600 palm trees indigenous to parts of Africa and Asia. The trees are superficially similar to bamboo, but unlike bamboo they have a solid core vine which is perfect for producing wicker patio sets. Rattan is also easy to replenish so it's a cheaper alternative to bamboo.

Cane
Cane refers to the stem of large rattan trees where the palm leaf connects to the stem. During the drying process, it takes on a yellow color. Cane is used particularly in the production of natural wicker and stained pieces of furniture.

Paper
Between 1900 and 1930 there was a type of wicker known as paper fiber. It was made using chemically treated manmade kraft paper fiber. Its original use was to emulate the pricier Victorian rattan. The problem with paper fiber is that it cannot get wet.

Resin
In recent years, synthetic wicker has become popular as an "all-weather" variety that is better for outdoor use than traditional wicker. Synthetic wicker is made from a resin plastic that's waterproof and resistant to warping, rot and infestation.

New Butterfly Garden Plants

Butterfly Garden Plants

Creating a butterfly habitat is not as difficult as many people might believe. Following a few simple steps and growing the right butterfly garden plants will bring a mass of butterflies to your backyard for years to come. Having the most desirable plants available to butterflies goes a long way in drawing the most with the least amount of effort. Let's begin with identifying which plants attract butterflies, by their nectar, and then move on to the butterfly host plants.

Butterfly Nectar Plants - Most Common

Butterfly Bush
Butterfly Weed
Common Milkweed
Wild Bergamot
Purple Coneflower
Autumn Joy Sedum
Marigolds
Black-Eyed Susan
Garlic Chives
Red Clover
Lilacs

The butterfly host plants are used mainly by the butterflies for laying eggs and as a source of nutrition for the caterpillars.

Butterfly Host Plants - Most Common

Most of the Milkweed family
Pawpaw Tree
Alfalfa
Herbs (such as Parsley & Dill)
Clover family
Mustard family
Willows

By planting these commonly available garden plants you can attract the most wide array of butterflies to your garden. You'll want to also plant an assortment of other perennials and grasses to provide a cover for your butterflies to retreat to. Your butterfly garden wouldn't be complete without a place for the butterflies to drink from. While you may find a desperate butterfly taking a sip at the edge of a bird bath, you would do well to give them a more natural watering hole. If you don't have a naturally wet spot in your garden you can easily make your own by filling a shallow container with some sand and then keeping the water level right below the surface of the sand. That way the butterflies can actually land on the damp surface and take a drink.

While there are many more garden plants that you could grow to draw specific types of butterflies, these tips will draw a host of butterflies to your garden in a hurry. Don't forget that once you create your butterfly habitat, you should be responsible in the maintenance of it.

Add Some Style to Your Outdoor Living Spaces

If you enjoy decorating the inside of your home, let your decorating talents loose on the outside as well. Your porches, patios, decks and other outdoor spaces allow you to show off your decorating skills in a whole new way.

Outdoor decorating offers you a chance to let loose and decorate with whimsical items that you might not find appropriate for inside your home. At the same time, decorating your outdoor spaces can be challenging too.

The best way to decide on how you want to decorate outdoors is to list the things that you will be using the space for. Is the area a place for relaxing after a long day or is it a space for cooking outdoors and entertaining friends and family.

By deciding what you want to accomplish with your space you will narrow down you choices on the types of outdoor furnishings and accessories you will need. For instance, if you want to do a lot of outdoor cookouts but you don't have a grill, then that needs to be the first item on your list to purchase.

Next you need to decide what type of outdoor furniture you want. You will find several different weather resistant materials used to manufacture furniture for your outdoor spaces, as well as many different styles from modern to traditional. Your choices will only be limited by the look you want to convey.

Most outdoor seating uses cushions in weatherproof fabrics. Again you will find many, many choices ranging from solid colors, stripes, dots to plaids and prints. Select your favorite and then add a few coordinating pillows for a seating area that just begs to be used.

After choosing your furniture, you will probably want to select some outdoor lighting so you can enjoy the outdoors even at night. As with your choices of furniture, there are a multitude of choices for lighting. You can choose lights that are wired in or lights that run on solar power, or a combination of the two. If you do choose solar lighting, you will probably want at least one or two electric lights as the solar lights are not as bright as electric lights.

Last are the accessories. You can let your decorating style go wild with the choices you will find to accessorize your outdoor rooms and entertaining spaces. If you choose solar lighting, you might want to add a couple of weatherproof outdoor lamps for more illumination.

Fountains can add a focal point to the area and as an added bonus are quite soothing to listen to. If you live in an area that is noisy, the water flowing and splashing from a garden fountain can help to block out other noise.
